On The Go Baby Boy Quilt

You know that making a quilt takes a lot of time.  One thing they're not is a quick project.  The last baby shower I went to depleted my stock of Baby Boy Quilts.  So, my next quilt project, or two, will be making a quilt suitable for a baby boy.  I like to be prepared!

I really like the On The Go Baby Boy Quilt, featured on Moda Bake Shop.

My first problem, and maybe the last one, is I don't want to use pre-cuts.  I want to pull from my stash and scraps.  This quilt uses 18 different prints, here are the fabrics, I've pulled.:

I thought these all qualified for the "boy" theme.  There are rockets, cars, trains soccer, stripes, checks, dots, letters and words.

Since I am using yardage, I needed to chart how to get the cuts I needed.  I figured a 4" strip from each fabric would work.

From each 4" strip of fabric I cut a 3.5 x 3.5", a 3.5 x 3", a 4 x 4", and a 3.5 x.4.5 piece.

Then I cut the background pieces. There were 8 different cuts, most were 18 each, some 36 each, and a 12 and a 4 each.  I usually don't follow patterns, so this is very different for me.  Now, I ready to start sewing, Wish me luck.

May your bobbins always be full,

  2. I've looked at that pattern and loved it, but I too wanted to use fabrics from my stash. Being a newbie, I couldn't figure it out at all. Thanks for doing the math for me! (It's going to be super cute.)

  6. I guess your fabrics will make a really cute quilt for a kit, and it's a good stashbuster, isn't it?
