A couple of finishes

I started this quilt top last Saturday and finished it on Friday.  I used 6 charm packs of Cookies & Cream by Wilmington Prints and lots of scraps!

One of my guild members called this an Improv Butterfly Quilt; I guess I'll go with that name!  I really love how it turned out.

I also did a quick project, birthday gifts for my granddaughter Erin and her new husband Jaimie.  Jaimie is a firefighter and Erin is studying to be a nurse.  These are quick, but I took longer than the 15 minutes that the tutorial claimed! 

I've previously made several of these pillowcases; I recommend the tutorial by Leslie, The Seasoned Homemaker.  I usually make these to give as a gift to an older sibling when I gift a quilt to a new baby in the family.  I don't want the older children to feel left out.  In August, two of my bookseller friends are expecting additions, so I'll be making four more pillowcases in the near future.

Pillowcase Tale

This is a photo of my daughter Sharon and I. 

For Christmas, I gave her son Oden a handmade pillowcase; Sharon said she wish I'd make her another pillowcase to match to one I gave her a couple of Valentines, ago.  I made two, gifted her one and sold the other.  This is it:

I didn't know where I'd get my hands on anymore to that fabric, especially since I'm on a fabric diet; but I did find a half yard of some sexy firemen, in my stash.  It wasn't enough for a pillowcase, I needed at least 3/4 yard.  I added a gray solid and made her a new pillowcase.

Sharon and Oden are coming today to take down our outside Christmas lights.  I think she'll be surprised.

More Pillowcases

I really enjoyed making the pillowcases for Oden and his brothers and sister.  I decided to make some more.  They don't have any purpose, so I've listed them in my etsy shop.  Maybe they'll sell!  Here they are, if you're curious.

I've just realized, they all have animals on them.  Giraffes, Elephants, Hippos, and Rabbits!  If they don't sell, I'll at least have some animal themed gifts, ready to give.

Pillowcases

We're going to have an unusual Christmas this year. We're going to our youngest daughters’ home on Christmas day. You may wonder what’s so unusual about that.

 In addition to Bob and I, my daughter has invited her ex’s wife and her four children, my grandson’s half-siblings. And the ex will be there with his current girlfriend. (Still married to number two, yes he is.) My daughter, as you can tell is an amazing and generous woman.

I haven’t figured out gifts for wife number two and the girl friend, but yesterday I made pillow cases all five children in attendance.

All the kids have unusual names, too.  Oden is my grandson, he's 13.  Ares is 9, and I think Iven is 7, Hero is 5 and Cassia, the only girl is about 4.

While I'm figuring out the gifts for the women, I think I'll sew up some pillowcases to put in the shop.  I used this tutorial from the twiddletails blog.  I love how the pillowcases are finished with french seams, perfect for pillowcases that will actually be used.
