Scrap Queen

My long arm quilter, Janiel, called me the Scrap Queen, the last time I dropped off two quilts, ready for quilting.  That really does describe me, lately.  I've been really busy using up the mountain of scraps I've accumulated.

After sorting my strip shaped scraps, I decided to make some potholders.  These are large, 9", so I think they'll be great for hotpads, too.  I used my walking-foot, love that thing, to stitch parallel to the seams when I put them all together, backing, layers of batting and the front.

I had fun choosing FQ's that I thought would co-ordinate with the scrappy fronts.  These are really just mini-quilts!  For the binding I used an extension of the back, cut to 1.5", then folded in half.  I used a zig zag stitch  to add a little extra when I stitch the binding down.

Then I moved on to the tons of selvedges I've been collecting.  I saved the really long pieces for a future project, and used all the strips that were a little over 10" long.  I had 5 layer cake pieces, in my scraps, I used them as foundations for joining the selvedge strips together.  Again, I had fun choosing FQ's to co-ordinated with the fronts of the potholders.  I also used the same binding method of wrapping the backing around and stitching it down with a zig zag stitch.

These were a lot of fun, most are being saved for my Christmas giving project.

May your bobbins always be full,
