Nesting Fabric Bowls

At the English Paper-Piecing workshop, I attended last Saturday, Colleen had some cute fabric bowls that she was using for her supplies.

I've been waiting for the fabric to arrive for my next project, so I decided to make some for myself.  I researched and found the pattern and downloaded it.  The pattern is Nesting Fabric Bowls by Nova.  I normally don't purchase patterns, but honestly, I was feeling lazy and didn't want to figure it out for myself!

The pattern includes measurements for six sizes of the bowls, 4" to 9"  I decided to make the 6, 7 and 8-inch bowls.  The pattern is well written, easy to follow and includes many options.

I'm really happy with the results, and I'm sure I'll get a lot of use out of them.

Not one, but two

When I ordered the fabric for Sharon's satchel, I was winging it.  We'd decided on what she wanted the bag to look like, and I found a tutorial for a smaller version.  I ordered too much fabric, based on my guesstimation, just to be safe.  After drawing out the two main pattern pieces, I decided I had enough fabric to make two bags, instead on one.

I made them just alike, because that was easier, for me.  I really think the bags turned out great.  

I put in two interior pockets, one on the back and one on the front of the bag.

Sharon wanted her satchel to be extra large, and I think this fills the bill.  I haven't decided exactly what to do with the second bag.  I'm thinking of giving it away to the mother of Oden's half siblings, but we'll see.

Satchel for Sharon

I have two great daughters; they're adults, of course, and they rarely ask for anything.  The quilt top I just finished was a rare request from Carrie, my blogging daughter, who lives in NC.  On Thanksgiving, Sharon, who lives in Orange County, said, "Whenever you have some spare time, would you make me a bag?"  Bob and I both laughed because I keep busy and never seem to have any spare time.  But my daughters are a priority; and while I was working on the last project, Sharon and I emailed back and forth about what kind of bag she wanted.  She didn't want the first four I proposed, they weren't exactly "it" and not large enough.  I hit the jackpot with this bag, except it was smaller than she desired.

I've spent this morning drafting a pattern for a larger bag, and I've decided to add an inside pocket.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my figures will work.  Here's the fabric I've chosen:

I thought it'd be a great weight for the bag, and I won't need to add interfacing.  It's organic cotton canvas from Cloud 9.

I've been busy

I really have been busy, not necessarily with quilting or sewing.  When I started quilting two years ago, I started saving quilt ideas and patterns; also some crafty sewing  project and toy ideas.  Today, I spent some time with organizing this mess.  I tossed several that had lost my interest or I know I'd never make.  Hopefully all this organization will help.

Do you remember the two star quilts I made for my neighbor Darlene's great grand-babies, who are due next month?  I got them back from my long arm quilter, and love them.  I found I didn't have enough of any of the fabric I'd used, except the white on white background fabric.  So a trip to my LWS was in order and I think this binding will look great.  That's my project for the rest of the day.

Last week I attempted to make a toy.  I'm sad to report my attempt went in the trash.  I've analysed the problem and may attempt this again, modifying the process; but this is the first failure in 59 years of sewing that I can remember.
