2013 Finishes

This was a great year, for me.  Plus, I was very productive, stitching-wise.  Nineteen finished quilts and two bags made.  I have to laugh about making the bags.  Whenever I need a new purse, or bag, I browse around etsy, and purchase from another maker.  But when my daughter asked me to make a bag, I did!  I may do more, because it was fun.

I also usually piece my quilt backs, so a made a vid of those, too.  I hope you have time to watch these short videos, if not, no worries.

Here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Productive New Year.

Not one, but two

When I ordered the fabric for Sharon's satchel, I was winging it.  We'd decided on what she wanted the bag to look like, and I found a tutorial for a smaller version.  I ordered too much fabric, based on my guesstimation, just to be safe.  After drawing out the two main pattern pieces, I decided I had enough fabric to make two bags, instead on one.

I made them just alike, because that was easier, for me.  I really think the bags turned out great.

I put in two interior pockets, one on the back and one on the front of the bag.

Sharon wanted her satchel to be extra large, and I think this fills the bill.  I haven't decided exactly what to do with the second bag.  I'm thinking of giving it away to the mother of Oden's half siblings, but we'll see.

Reverse Star Baby Quilt

This may be my last finish of 2013!  I have 3 small quilts at my long arm quilter, and 3 more large quilts being planned, to be ready for her, before the end of the year.  But, I don't think it's fair to demand they be done before the end of the year.  She's busy enough as it is.  This 40 x 40 inch baby quilt will go in the shop, as soon as I get some more photos.  It was a bit dreary, today.

The back.

I improvised, down at the pool.  Because it was so overcast, no one was taking advantage of the facilities,   The pool was smooth as glass.  Sun is expected tomorrow, so more photos, then.

Bouncing Baby Boy Quilts

Although these two quilts are made using the same pattern and the same fabrics, they are different, as you can easily see.  Plus, one is bound in gold and the other in gray.

The stitch pattern is called Bear, Moose and Pine, I think it's a great choice for these Boy Quilts.  It goes with the fabric, so well.

This is me trying to get a photo of the two quilts, together.  I finally got an acceptable one.

These quilts are going to two young couples that are each expecting their second sons.  Even though they are all from this area, I don't think they know each other!  One Mom is my fantastic hair-cutter, who worked at Barnes and Noble with me, and the other is the daughter in law of my daughters' best friend.  They'll be receiving these, shortly.

Linking up with Fabric Tuesday.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

 Blogger's Quilt Festival - AmysCreativeSide.com

I love everything about this quilt.  Warning:  lots of photos, the first batch were taken on my dining room table, AKA as the cutting table and design area.

The fabrics are from the first two collections from Parsons Gray.

I won one collection and purchased the other, plus some co-ordinating fabrics suggested by Pink Chalk Fabrics.

The quilt is fully reversible, the "back" features Greek Cross blocks, an easy switch up because they use same components as the Churn Dash blocks.

Now, for the backyard photos.

Sorry, I warned you, lots of photos.

I shipped it across the country to my 17 year old grandson Brett.  It was a surprise gift.  Brett's a great guy  and a great athlete. He eats, sleeps and breathes soccer.  He's the only grandchild who hasn't ever asked for a quilt.  I'm happy to say he loved his quilt, and told his Mom, she couldn't have it.  He put it on his bed immediately, with the reverse side showing!  Of course he did, it's much more masculine.

Here's a photo of Brett, in the while shirt, playing soccer, from their local newspaper.

And finally, a glimpse of the best quilt model, Bob.

I'm entering in the Bed Size Quilt category.
The quilt measures 92" x 67", a large twin size.

I'll get the quilt shipped to my grandson, later this week.  Truth is, he's 17 and probably doesn't care about getting a quilt.  But, he's the only grandchild who hasn't asked for one or more quilts, so I figured it was his turn.

It's Labor Day, and I've been laboring

Warning, lots of photos.  These quilts are the result of my Plan B conundrum. You can read about it here.

This is the first quilt, Giant HSTs, that I put binding on, today.

This is the quilt back, and a shot of the loopy quilting.

I used Kona Chartreuse for the binding on both quilts, and inserted a patch of contrast in the binding.

Here's the second quilt, Random Stepping Stones.  Same fabrics, different design.

This photo shows the dragonfly quilting on this quilt.  The binding patch shows up better on this quilt.  I'm pretty much doing this on all my quilts, now.

Here's the back of this quilt.  It's nearly identical to the back of the top quilt.
