Blogger's Quilt Festival

This is the TENTH Bloggers Quilt Festival I've joined, and this past June maked my 5th year quilting.   

This time I'm showing off this Delectable Mountain quilt made with Lush Uptown.  When I made the blocks I decided early on to make half of them complete blocks and half mixed, with two fabrics. Because I used 21 fat eights, I only had so much fabric to work with. I'm really please with how the quilt top turned out. I ended up with only one orphan block; talk about cutting it close!,  This quilt top measures 76" x 50", a nice size to use for napping or reading a book.

I love the quilt back, too.

The color of the quilting thread is Honey 32607, and the pattern is Old Oakky.  I love working with my long-arm quilter Janiel Miller, on this part of the process.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

 

I love everything about this quilt.  Warning:  lots of photos, the first batch were taken on my dining room table, AKA as the cutting table and design area.

The fabrics are from the first two collections from Parsons Gray.

I won one collection and purchased the other, plus some co-ordinating fabrics suggested by Pink Chalk Fabrics.

The quilt is fully reversible, the "back" features Greek Cross blocks, an easy switch up because they use same components as the Churn Dash blocks.

I shipped it across the country to my 17 year old grandson Brett.  It was a surprise gift.  Brett's a great guy  and a great athlete. He eats, sleeps and breathes soccer.  He's the only grandchild who hasn't ever asked for a quilt.  I'm happy to say he loved his quilt, and told his Mom, she couldn't have it.  He put it on his bed immediately, with the reverse side showing!  Of course he did, it's much more masculine.

An interview

If you read my blog(s), you know I'm just one of the millions of small time bloggers.  I'm absolutely fine with being in such a large group of wonderful people.  Oh, the hassles the big time bloggers have, and I've seen a few with egos at stretch to Mars, and back.  No, no, no, that''s not for me.

I was surprised when I was contacted by Amy Ellis.  She sent a list of interview questions and asked for some photos.  That I could do.  I'm kinda chatty and love taking photos.  Last night Amy shot me an email that I would be the featured quilter on her blog, today.

I'm sure you know Amy, she blogs at Amy's Creative Side, and in 2009 she created the semi-annual Blogger's Quilt Festival.  My "interview" is over on her blog.

Autumn Maple Leaves Quilt ~ 2013 Blogger's Quilt Festival

My goal was to make it look as if the Autumn Maple Leaves had been scattered randomly over the quilt top.

This is a close-up of the Maple Leaves pantograph, quilted by Janiel Miller.

The quilt measures 94" x 94".  It would work on either a Queen or King size bed.

I always piece my quilt backs, and this one is no exception.  I had a fat eighth stack Lizzie House's Castle Peeps.  The prints that didn't make the cut for the quilt top, were used on the quilt back.

2012 Blogger's Quilt Festival

It's time for the Blogger's Quilt Festival hosted by AmysCreativeSide.com.  It's a virtual quilt show and there are always so many beautiful quilts to see.

My problem is, each quilt I make is my favorite, each and every one.  It's hard to feature just one!  But here it goes.

I named this quilt Simple Kites Patchwork Quilt.  It was my first time making Half Rectangle Triangles, and it was easy and simple.  I pinned a great tutorial for HRTs, here.  I asked my long arm quilter to use this flying kite design and I love the way the quilting turned out.

I piece the backs of 95% of my quilts, it's such a fun way to use up scraps and to add interest.  The quilt measures 66.75 X 41.5.

Bloggers Quilt Festival ~ Spring 2012

 

Well, it's that time of the year again.  I've decided to show of my Swoon quilt for the Spring Edition of the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  I just finished putting the binding on this week.  Already two people have claimed it, we'll have to see how well that works out!

In January I joined the Swoon-a-long, over at I'm a Ginger Monkey.  It was the first QAL I've done.

I used Kona Coal for the background fabric and Kona Charcoal for the binding.

Bloggers’ Quilt Festival

This is my most recent finish and I really love it.  I'd joined A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along, hosted by Angela in June; it was pretty slow going, so I decided to do one more zig zag quilt, at the same time, using HSTs.  I just added more fabric choices to my rainbow and this is the result.  I was hesitant about the diagonal rainbow stripe binding, but Bob assures me it's terrific.

Bloggers’ Quilt Festival

When I make a quilt, I seldom have plans for it.  I quilt to keep busy and to do something creative.

When my husband Bob saw this quilt taking shape, he said, "I want this one."  We're "dog people", so it's staying here instead of becoming a gift or being listed in my etsy shop.
