Large Zig Small Zag Quilt.

I love making Zig Zag quilts.  I saw a pattern very similar to this, for sale, and I thought I could make it without using a pattern.  I really love how it turned out.  I wrote a tutorial, if you're interested, it's here:  http://jansquiltfinishestutorials.blogspot.com/2011/09/large-zig-small-zag-quilt.html

I had a couple of extra Large Zigs that I added to the quilt back.  The rest of the back is made from the leftovers of the blue FQs.  I used Kona Midnight for the binding and a tad of a complimentary red print.

I asked my long arm quilter for stars and I think they're wonderful.

This is the 5th quilt I've put the finishing touches on this month!

2011 Quilt Finishes

These are my 20 "finishes" for 2011.  Most have gone to other homes, a couple have stayed here at "Bob and Jan's", and a couple are in the shop, awaiting their own homes.

Little Forrest Wall-hangings

Finally!  I finished sewing on the binding and hanging loops on all three of the Little Forrest QAL wall-hangings.  I made the loops extra long, in case we ever want to insert a large twig or small branch for the hanger.  I purchased a magnetic curtain rod for our front door, (the door is steel), at Lowe's.

The two below are going to my daughters' homes.  I sure hope they like them.

As you can see, all three are slightly different.  When I was laying them out, Bob thought they should all be the same.  He also didn't like that some of the corners were empty.  Bob has a great artist eye, but I'm the chief quilt artist in residence, so my lay-out stayed.

One last finish, today!

I've been ashamed of myself, letting  the quilts that I got back for the long arm quilters just stack up.  Well, this is the last one. This is another small quilt I used the Jelly Roll Race method.  I loved the owl print fabric and I cut my own strips to co-ordinate with it.  I wanted a small quilt, so I only used 17 strips, divided them for top and bottom and started sewing.

May I present the Owl Quilt.

A close-up of the quilting.   I decided to keep it fun, with the bubbles.

I also decide not to piece the back.  I love the ampersand fabric and thought I just let it "speak" for itself.

Tomorrow I hope to put the bindings on the three wall-hangings I made for the Little Forest QAL.  Keep your fingers crossed that I'll have time.

Dogs Waiting at the Garden Fence is finished

We're "Animal People", here at The Prytz House.  We love 'em all, especially dogs.  We have two, Carrie has five, and Sharon has one.  A dog theme quilt is a natural.  I took these photos after sunrise, but before the sun had reached the backyard, so they're not bright; I have a busy day ahead and wanted to get this posted.

This is the back and a small close up.  The quilting was done by a long arm quilter that I don't use very often, in March she made a huge error on a commissioned quilt, my client asked for stippling and the long arm quilter used a feather pattern, on a queen quilt!  I really like this gal, and thought I'd give her this quilt to do.  She almost got it right, the pattern she used is close to the one I requested; and she didn't center the back, there should be no white showing at the top of the columns.  I'm lucky I have one other long arm quilter who I also like, and who does what I ask.

I love the quilt.  I love the fabrics I used.  It's a keeper.  The quilt measures about 43.5 inches square.

I Spy Quilt

I don't think I've ever blogged about this small quilt.  Amazing, I know; I blog about everything!  Two summers ago, I purchased some I Spy squares, they were pretty large about 6.5 inches.  I used some of them to make a I Spy Quilt for Kimberly's baby, and the rest for this quilt.

I think it's more "Boy" oriented, so I had the long arm quilter use a sports ball theme.

Here's the back, and another photo of the sports ball quilting.
The quilt is small, about 36" square.

Second finish this week!

Can I get a Whoop-Whoop!

Another finish, today.  I have quite a few WIPs, just waiting for binding, so I should have a lot of finishes this week!  Because of Bob's health, I'm no longer working part time at B&N, so MORE quilting time for me.

This quilt is the result of my first ever QAL, A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along, with Angela of Cut to Pieces.

The quilt measures about 68" x 78", I'm average height and I had to stand on my tippy-toes to pin it to the fence the long way.  I like how it looks both ways.

I always piece my backs, with rare exception.
How about that blue California sky, and it's about 90 degrees, here in Murrieta.
