Kimberly's Pillow-Covers

Two using HSTs.

Japanese + & X, and Granny Squares.

Disappearing Nine Patch.
This one measures out at 20" square.

I used men's shirts for the backs.

What the backs look like.  Each one has a pocket for putting secrets.
I don't have any 18" or 20" pillow forms, so these are flat.
The string quilt is one of the first I made.  I think it goes well with the pillow-covers.

96, and making progress.

96 HSTs, ready to make a zig zag pillow top.  Each is 3.5 inches square.  Since I frequently sew "by the seat of my pants", I don't know if I have enough or too many.  I'll know once I have them all laid out.  Wish me luck.  Are you sewing today?

Second finish this week!

Can I get a Whoop-Whoop!

Another finish, today.  I have quite a few WIPs, just waiting for binding, so I should have a lot of finishes this week!  Because of Bob's health, I'm no longer working part time at B&N, so MORE quilting time for me.

This quilt is the result of my first ever QAL, A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along, with Angela of Cut to Pieces.

The quilt measures about 68" x 78", I'm average height and I had to stand on my tippy-toes to pin it to the fence the long way.  I like how it looks both ways.

I always piece my backs, with rare exception.
How about that blue California sky, and it's about 90 degrees, here in Murrieta.

Bloggers’ Quilt Festival

This is my most recent finish and I really love it.  I'd joined A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along, hosted by Angela in June; it was pretty slow going, so I decided to do one more zig zag quilt, at the same time, using HSTs.  I just added more fabric choices to my rainbow and this is the result.  I was hesitant about the diagonal rainbow stripe binding, but Bob assures me it's terrific.

Here's the back:

I've been quilting just over 2 years, and this is my 3rd Bloggers’ Quilt Festival!  My first year I jumped right in, and I've been joining in ever since.  Thanks to Amy for hosting.

Large Zig Small Zag Quilt.

This baby is ready for prime time, I mean the long arm quilter.  The finished size is going to be about 53x76 inches.  I received the extra 2 yards of Rich Red I needed to finish this quilt top, on Saturday.  I worked the entire weekend, so yesterday, after a couple of errands, I spent the rest of the day, into the evening sewing.  I wanted to finish up, because we're having our card group here, tonight, and I use my dining room table for cutting and laying out fabric.

Today I trekked to the closest ballpark to take these photos.  I thought the Red,White and Blue fabric went well at a ballpark.  I'm always amazed at how much math is involved in quilting!  This quilt required a lot of math!

The large zig zags look white, in the above photos, they really are blue and white.  Here's a close-up:

By the way, I hung the quilt top upside down, and didn't realize it until I was home!

I wrote a tutorial for the quilt top.  Nothing fancy, believe me.  If you're interested, it's here.

Large Zig Small Zag Quilt.

Oh, bother

I've been making fast progress with my Large Zig Small Zag Quilt.  It's been a challenge because I'm winging it with no instructions.  (I'm actually writing some instructions as I go.)  I was a tad worried about my math on the hst; but the two sizes seem to be working well.  I've gotten all the hst sewn into rows.  Now I'm ready to cut the connecting strips of background fabric, but I discovered I didn't have enough Kona Rich Red.  I have some other reds, but I don't want to mix my solids.  Now, I just have to wait for Fat Quarter Shop to deliver more Kona Rich Red.

I'm feeling pretty clever

If you look back at all the quilts I've completed, you can tell that I love Zig Zag quilts.  I've completed 4 Zig Zag Quilts out of 36.  It's my most repeated motif.  I have another at the long arm quilter, and one awaiting binding.  I've made 6 Zig Zag quilts and I'm gonna make at least one more.

When I saw this great quilt, and the first thing I thought was, "I can do this!"

source

I bought this stack of 24 Bonnie Blues by Paula Barnes, probably over a year and a half ago, and it's just been sitting around waiting to be part of a quilt; I also have two yards of this Rich Red Kona cotton, and I think these will work for this quilt.  It looks as if 2 small zig zags equal one large one; and the strip of background fabric between the rows is the same depth as the " vertical drop" of background fabric in the small zig zag.  That's my premise and I'm running with it to make this new quilt.

Keep tuned to see how clever I really am!

Speaking of clever, have you noticed my new blog design.  I have 5 blogs and my lovely creative daughter Carrie, volunteered to update them all.  I'd been thinking this needed to be done, but she's really busy with her design business, Sweet Faerie Designs, so I hesitated asking.  It turned out that she needed guinea pig for  some new things she wanted to try, and I was it.  She did a great job.  If you're thinking of an update for your blog, or just tweaking it, give Carrie a shout.

Rainbow - A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along

The Top
and
The Back

These are the top and the pieced back of A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along.  I used a lot of the leftover bits and pieces from the top for the backing.  I'm really pleased with the way it turned out; once it's quilted, it'll measure about 70x70".  I was a little frustrated along the way because the instructions were eked out over 6 weeks, it was too slow for me.  I made an entire other quilt top and bottom during that time.  However, I am very grateful to Angela for doing this QAL, I learned a lot!

Brown and Green Zig Zag Quilt is finished.

I haven't blogged about the quilt, too much.  It's now finished and I really like it.  It measures 45x58 inches.

Dudley came out in the heat to supervise the photo taking.

HST Rainbow Quilt

Top
This took a little longer than I'd planned, but I really love it.  Now, I just have to wait for a long arm quilter to do the quilting.
Back

Have you ever wondered about the Top and Back quilting terminology.  In the rest of the world the words are usually paired like this - Top and Bottom, and Front and Back.  I have no answer to this, but I think it's strange.

Today was a great day, here in SoCal; only 80 degrees and a slight breeze.  The breeze made taking photos fun.

I'm also waiting for the next set of instructions for the A Zig and A Zag Quilt Top.  Waiting patiently.

I've been plugging away at my Other Zig Zag Rainbow Quilt.  The top is just over half done.  I really happy with it so far.

A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along

zig zag quilt

I've decided to do the "A Zig and A Zag Quilt Along", hosted by Angela of Cut to Pieces.  I've been thinking of doing a rainbow quilt, and zig zag quilts are one of my favorite things to make, so this is perfect.  I've spent a couple of days ruminating about the fabric choices and settled on these.

I pulled everything from my stash, except the dark purple! What do you think?  I have lots of medium purple but no dark purple; a trip to my LQS remedied that situation.  This morning, I'll start the cutting.

This is the first quilt along I've participated in,

Zigzag Quilt

This is the layout I've decided on for this quilt.  Now, I'm off to errands and a haircut, before I start sewing.
