The Any Which Way Quilt is finished!

This is the final quilt I made using Half Rectangle Triangles and the Water Land fabric by Jessica Nielson for Cloud9 Collective.  Believe it or not, I still have more of these HRT's tucked away, but I couldn't bear to make another quilt top!  This quilt top was finished on December 29, 2015, and the binding was put on today.

As you can see, I used the same plan for the quilt back as I did for the other Water Land quilts, but I was lacking a tad of the original blue.  I think the lighter blue adds a bit of zip!

This quilt measures 37" x 43.5".  You can find it in my shop.

The Water Land Flying Kites Quilt is Finished!

This quilt went together pretty fast because I'd already made extra kites when I made the first Kite quilt top, plus I had a good idea what I wanted it to look like.  Having a plan is good!

I again used leftover solids for the quilt back and this wonderful script fabric from Wyndham Fabrics.

It measures 37" x 45".  You can find it in my shop.

Water Land Kite Quilt is Finished!

More proof that quilting is a slow process.  I started this quilt on Dec. 5, 2015, I finished the quilt top on Dec. 19th and I just got the binding on and can all it finished!

I love the quilt back and here's an indoor shot of the front.
The quilt measures 36" x 48".  You can find it in my shop.

Before I made the binding for this and two other Water Land Quilts, I made these two "burrito" pillowcases for the brothers of the baby girls who is receiving the Urban Life Quilt in Central Park.  I always think it's good to gift the older siblings, maybe it'll help avoid some jealousy if there is any.

The Any Which Way Quilt Top

Today, it's colder than heck, but a least it's not raining.  That means I was able to get outside and take some photos.  The Half Rectangle Triangles I've been working with sure are fun.

This quilt top measures 37 x 43.5".  I still have some HRTs leftover, I haven't decided how to use them.

As a reminder, these are the first and second quilt tops using Water Land.

The Second Water Land Kite Quilt Top is Finished!

We've had some rain, and it's still drizzling outside, I used the kitchen shutters as my clothesline today.  It worked pretty well.

This quilt top went together pretty fast for two reasons.  First, all the kite shapes were already put together and because I already had an idea about what I wanted to do.  I really love all the negative space in this quilt top.  It measures 37" x 45".

The quilt backs for these two quilts will need to wait until after Christmas because I need to "tidy-up" because my daughter and grandson are coming on Christmas Day.

I've decided to participate in the New Years Day - Mystery Quilt for a Cause, this time.  It's a FB group run by Heather Spencer.  This is the fabric I'm going to use.  I ordered them from Kathi of Jack of Arts.  It's a small business in a small AZ town, but she put together several options for this QAL, and I just loved this one.  I don't need more fabric, but I wanted to support her shop, plus she's donating part of the purchase price to Heather's charity The Family Renewal Center.  It's a private charity that helps victims of domestic violence.  A great cause.

Water Land Kite Quilt Top is Finished!

It feels as if it's been forever, but it's only been two weeks since I started this project, but it's only been two weeks.  I made a total of 572 HRTs; this quilt top used 204 of them.  However I look at it, I have enough for one or two more quilt tops.  I don't want to repeat this exact design, so the other 1 or 2 will be different.

This top measures 35" x 48.5".  It's kinda long and narrow; I think it's the perfect size for a crib or playmat.

Now, on to another version!

I thought I'd show off my language skills.  Oh wait, I don't have any language skills.  So, in plain English, I'm finished with trueing up the HRTs, all 560 of them.

Now, to do some chain-stitching, after I let Frisco out to explore the backyard.

It's been slow going

So far, I've trued-up half of the Half Rectangle Triangles that I've cut.  That's 280 HRTs!  It's taken 5 days because, (1)  Life gets in the way, and (2) it's a bit hard on my back, all that truing-up.

Now, I need to get to the remainder of the HRTs, all 280 of them.  The way I figure it, I'll end up with 140 kites to use in some baby quilts.  Wish me luck.

I have a plan

My plan is to take this fabulous fabric and make some baby quilts.  The print fabric is Water Land by Jessica Nielson for Cloud9 Collective.

I thought I'd start with a Kite quilt, or two.  However, I made an error and only had enough HRTs to make three kites.  You see, I forgot about making HALF of the rectangles top left to bottom right and HALF of them top right to bottom left.

It was back to the cutting mat to fix the problem.  Now they're half and half and I need to true them up.

With Half Rectangle Triangles, truing up is a MUST!  Since I'm not using a pattern, it'll be interesting to see how these all come together.  It's taken me a week to get this far!

The previous HRT quilts I've made started with 4x6" pieces.  I made these 3x5" since I had baby quilts in mind.  I think one of the new quilts will look a lot like this one, the first HRT quilt I made.

Mandalay Half Rectangle Triangle quilt is finished!

Another quilt is complete, and I'm so happy.  I love this quilt.  It's the second time I've done a HRT quilt, but I don't think it'll be the last.  The other one was a kite quilt.

The quilting by my LAQ is great.  This photo shows the Kona Cadet I used on the back, better than the last photo.

I used all the leftover Mandalay fabric to piece the quilt back.  I sure hope my daughter likes this quilt,  If not, I'll be glad to keep it!  This is a queen-size, 85" by 88.5".

Now I'm free to start some fresh projects.  I hate to have WIPs hanging over my head.  I think I'm going to make some baby quilts, one for a specific baby and others to have on hand.  You know how babies have a habit of popping up!  I need to be prepared.

I've got a stack of quilts to bind...

And they're all queen-size.  From the top, Autumn Leaves 95 x 95", Vintage Modern 70 x 87", and Mandalay HSR 85 x 88.5".

It took me about 4 days to get to this point.  I had thought I'd have all the bindings sewn on by now, so much for thinking!

The colors of the bindings aren't showing up very well from the top, they ar Kona Wheat, Kona Black and Kona Cadet.

Now, I'm ready to start on the first one.  Photos to follow, of course.
