A Bright Spot

This hasn't been my favorite week, but seeing my quilt in "Quilty" brightened my day.  This is in the Jan/Feb issue.  The mag usually sends me a copy if I have a quilt in it, but not this time.  I picked this up at the grocery while stocking up on essentials.

Delectable Mountain Variation

I finally finished these scrappy Delectable Mountain blocks.  I wanted to try some different layouts for this versatile block, so I added an extra background strip.

Samples A & B above and below, shows the Buzzsaw layout I've been contemplating.  I really love the movement in these.

Sample C is another variation that may work.  I'm going to mull these over, before I start stitching.

Blogger's Quilt Festival

This is the TENTH Bloggers Quilt Festival I've joined, and this past June maked my 5th year quilting.   

This time I'm showing off this Delectable Mountain quilt made with Lush Uptown.  When I made the blocks I decided early on to make half of them complete blocks and half mixed, with two fabrics. Because I used 21 fat eights, I only had so much fabric to work with. I'm really please with how the quilt top turned out. I ended up with only one orphan block; talk about cutting it close!,  This quilt top measures 76" x 50", a nice size to use for napping or reading a book.

I love the quilt back, too.

The color of the quilting thread is Honey 32607, and the pattern is Old Oakky.  I love working with my long-arm quilter Janiel Miller, on this part of the process.

Progress!

It only took a week, but it seemed much longer!  I started with this pile of fabric, pulled from my stash.

Cut the 8.5 inch squares and matched prints and backgrounds.  Marked the diagonal and stitched on both sides.

Pressed the HSTs open, I didn't take a photo of that!

Trued up 120 HSTs to a perfect 8 inch square.  Every one of them.

Now, I don't know what I'm going to do.  We have a busy week ahead, and I'm torn between starting to make the Delectable Mountain blocks or putting the binding on the two commissioned quilts I just got back from my long arm quilter.  I'll probably work on the bindings, because that's the responsible thing to do.

New Blue Delectable Mountain Quilt Top

First the fabric pull, all from my stash.

Then the cutting.  I decided on 8.5 inch squares.  I really don't have a firm plan.  The Delectable Mountain quilt block is very versatile, regarding layout.  I thought I'd get the blocks made and see if they're speaking to me.

Lush Uptown Delectable Mountain

It took a little while to get back in the swing of things.  Yesterday, when I started on the binding for this quilt, I wasn't sure I really knew what I was doing!  Thank heavens it all came right back.

I love the quilt back, too.

These are our two new dogs.  Ben, is a terrier mix, one year old, and Frisco is an American Cocker, seven years old.  They get along great.  It's the first time we've had two males.  These are dogs number 11 and 12 for us, in 50 years of marriage.

A Tall Stack

Bob and I are finally home from our six week anniversary trip.  We had a great time, each week was wonderful.  Before I left town I picked up this stack of four quilts, they are all ready for binding, I just have to find the time.  This weekend is looking good; I'll keep my fingers crossed.  From the bottom, this is a queen sized sample quilt I made, and it's staying here at Casa Prytz; next up, a Pale Geese quilt for a surprise gift; then the Dolce quilt for the shop; the top one is a Lush Delectable Mountain quilt that may just stay here, too, I really love it.

Delectable Mountain Quilt Top is finished

The quilt top is finished, and I'm a happy camper.

When I made the blocks I decided early on to make half of them complete blocks and half mixed, with two fabrics.  Because I used 21 fat eights, I only had so much fabric to work with.  I'm really please with how the quilt top turned out.  I ended up with only one orphan block; talk about cutting it close!

This quilt top measures 76" x 50", a nice size to use for napping or reading a book.

The rest of today is "cleaning the house" day, because we're having our card group here, tomorrow.   Wednesday we go to San Diego, for one of Bob's infusion appointments, and I'll probably go to the zoo.  I love the San Diego Zoo.  Thursday, I'm hoping to get to the quilt back for this beauty.

Delectable Mountain Quilt, Laying out the strips

I'm still making Delectable Mountain Quilt blocks.  I have made progress, but I'm not taking any shortcuts.  I think this would be an easy block to make mistakes on, if you get in a hurry.  I took a break from cutting and stitching to take some photos of  the process.  Instead of posting 9 photos, I put them in a short presentation.

Delectable Mountain Quilt progress

Despite my best intentions, I got ZERO sewing time, yesterday.  Today, I was able to start sewing after lunch.  I took some photos of the process.  I've decided to make two sets at a time.

Lay the half square triangles right sides together- lights and darks are opposite each other

Cut them into 4– 2" strips- make sure you are cutting the correct direction!

Rearrange the order of the 4 strips so they will make a delectable mountain

Stitch the 4 strips together, then stitch both sections together.  I've decided not to stitch the two sections together, for every set of two.  That will give me more versatility, for the design I want.

Here are a couple of potential layouts.  This block is very versatile.  Now, I better get back to stitching; I have about eleventy million sets to cut and stitch.
