Wrap Up Collage

I know everyone does these year end wrap-ups, or collages; but I really enjoy doing them.  I know they're boring; however this collage makes me feel good.  Two of these quilts will be in a magazine next year, and I've submitted two more.  Fifteen quilts in 2014, nineteen in 2013, sixteen in 2012, twenty in 2011, twenty-four in 2010, wonder how many next year!

I promise to make mistakes, again, next year.

Simply Woven Quilt is finished

The push has been on!  I really wanted to get the bindings on three quilts before 2015 arrives, and I've done it.  This quilt is the final finish of 2014.  Most of my quilts are originals, made without a pattern, this one was an exception, the Moda Bake Shop tutorial was wonderful to follow.

Front, back and the quilting, and YES, we had snow overnight, right here in Murrieta.  It's after 1 PM, the snow is melting, but it's still here.  Great fun for SoCal people.  We got a light dusting about ten years ago, and when I was a little girl about 65 years ago, we had snow in Long Beach.

Patchwork Heart Quilt with HSTs

The LAQ, Janiel Miller, had three quilts back to me eons ago; my extra duties involved in being a caregiver make it difficult to just devote a chuck of time to creativity.  No complaint, just the facts.  I have decided to really try to get the binding on all three, before 2015 rolls around.

I'm really in love with this quilt, I spent some time "auditioning" fabric for the binding and settled on this warm gray diagonal strip from the Little Red Riding Hood line by Tasha Noel.  There are both warm and cool grays in the patchwork, and I thought this was a good choice.

Patchwork Heart Quilt

 

When I purchased a FQ bundle of 1930's fabric, it just sat there, and sat there on the shelf .  I usually keep my quilts pretty modern and I wasn't inspired to use them.  After I finished the Patchwork Heart Memory Quilt for a little girl, I thought I'd make another using these FQs.  I'm really happy with the results.

I used a navy gingham check from the Dear Jane line by Brenda Papadakis.  I think it really adds to this quilt.

Pinwheel Memory Quilt is finished

In June, I was contacted by a young widow in Chicago about making a memory quilt for her from her husbands' dress shirts.  After some discussion, she decided to have me make two quilts, one for here and one for her 6 year old daughter.  She decided on a pinwheel design with 3 borders, for herself.  I think this is the best memory quilt!

The quilting design is called Target by Ann and the thread is Blue Mist.  The finished quilt size is 61.5 x 77.75 inches.

Her husband's favorite color was blue, so I used a lot of blue in the quilt back and the binding.  For the back I used one sleeve from 12 of the dress shirts, dissected with a blue inset.  Not only will she be wrapped in his shirts, but also in his arms.

Heart Memory Quilt is finished

This quilt was made for a 6 year old girl, who'd lost her Daddy.  It's made from his dress shirts.

The quilting is Heartthrob by Ann, and we used Lucerne Blue for the thread.  The finished size is 63.5 inches square.

I pieced the quilt back using the pockets from the shirt fronts.  The pockets had been close to Daddy's heart, it just made sense to me.

When we were discussing designs, this is the one the child picked.  I think my version is less childish, so she'll love her quilt for many decades.

The Little Flag Quilt is finished.

I finally put the binding on this Little Flag Quilt.  For the binding I used Navy Honeycomb Dot by Riley Blake Designs.  I dithered between the Dots and solid navy.  When the daughters were here, yesterday, they voted for the Dots.

This quilt has already been claimed by a wonderful gal, who is one of my daughter's best friends.  She's like family and when she asked to buy it, I advised her she couldn't due to her family status.  So this quilt will soon be in the mail, on it's way to Iowa!

Wrangling fabric

This queen-size Positive quilt is finished.  The is the quilt I made as a sample, to be sure I had the measurements correct, for a commissioned quilt.  You can read about that quilt here, if you're interested.

Putting binding on a queen-size quilt, is really wrangling fabric!  We used  the Simple Feathers design and while thread for the quilting.

For the quilt back, I used a wide-back dots fabric that coordinated perfectly with the quilt top.  The finished size is 86.25 x 95 inches.

I had a heck of a time choosing a fabric for the binding.  All of the fabrics from the quilt top were pretty much depleted, the small white dot on aqua was the largest remnant, and it was almost enough.  I sneaked in a bit of striped fabric, in order to have enough to go around.

Upstream Dolce Quilt is finished.

This quilt took a long time, I started it last October, and finished it today; eight months is unusual.  I started with a FQ stack of Dolce, and a pattern idea, "Upstream" quilt by Cozy Quilt Designs; but I did't like the pattern instructions or methods, so I did my own thing.  I'm really happy with how this turned out.  For the back I used some leftovers, my usual method.

The quilt finished at 49 x 57 inches.  The quilting thread is white and the stitch pattern is Flamingo Sunset.

Pale Geese Heading North, quilt is finished

This quilt was made entirely of scraps; mainly the scraps from another quilt.  I made it with someone special in mind, as a surprise.  The recipient is a wonderful young woman, my cousins' granddaughter.  No one who would leak the secret reads the blog, so it's just between us bloggers, for now.

I love all the quilts I make, and this one is no exception.  Janiel and I decided on Dyed Natural for the thread and Simple Feathers for the quilting.  I think it's perfect.  I used pale yellow (Kona) for the binding.

This is the super scrappy back!  The quilt measures 63" x 63".
