Moonscape Baby Quilt, WIP

At Quiltcon this year, I received two mini-charm packs of Moonscape by Dear Stella.  I wanted to use all those small squares in a baby quilt but needed to come up with a plan.

This is the plan I came up with, and it uses almost all of the mini-charms.  I decided not to make traditional 9-patches and eliminated some seams by making 7-patches.  These 6.5" blocks were very quick and easy.

Right now, the quilt top measures about 30" inches square, but I'm waiting on some Moonscape yardage, so I can add a border.  Below are my two helpers, Frisco and Ben; they're soaking up some November sun.

Finally stitching

It's been six weeks since I've sewn a stitch!  Three of those weeks I was traveling.  Such a life!  I went to France for the first time and had a fabulous time.

Now, it's back to reality.  Before I left I wanted to make a new dog walking bag.  The old one was getting raggedy, it's five years old.  This went together in about an hour, and I think it'll last for another five or six years!

There's plenty of room inside for plastic bags, my phone, and keys.

The cross-body strap leaves my hands free to managed the dogs.  I'm still not good at selfies!

SDMQG Vintage Quilt Revival QAL ~ November Block ~ Red Cross

This is called "Classic Red Cross Block".  It is a paper-pieced block, it's not perfect, but I really love how it turned out.  I'm trying to keep my blocks for the QAL, very modern.

We're having some much needed rain, so my photos were all taken inside.  Since I've become Bob's caregiver, I've lost some of  my quilting time. I'm going to catch up this month, I hope!

This is Ben, waiting for me to finish, so I can take him and Frisco for a walk in the rain.

The Little Flag Quilt is finished.

I finally put the binding on this Little Flag Quilt.  For the binding I used Navy Honeycomb Dot by Riley Blake Designs.  I dithered between the Dots and solid navy.  When the daughters were here, yesterday, they voted for the Dots.

This quilt has already been claimed by a wonderful gal, who is one of my daughter's best friends.  She's like family and when she asked to buy it, I advised her she couldn't due to her family status.  So this quilt will soon be in the mail, on it's way to Iowa!

Quilt Back for the Heart Quilt

I took pockets from Daddy's shirts and three colors of blue to make the quilt back.

The lightest blue isn't reading very well, but it is blue.

Ben came outside to supervise.  He's very bossy, but managed to control himself.

Pets on Quilts

Ben is 1, and Frisco is 7

These two are difficult to photograph.  They could really care less about cooperating.  My technique was to throw a couple of patchwork quilts on the sofa, and entice them with treats.  I didn't have great results, but decided to share them anyway.

Ben and Frisco are shelter dogs who came to live with us on June 2nd.  They're great guys and we are so lucky to have them in our lives.  Ben is a small terrier mix, 10 lbs., and Frisco is an American Cocker mix, and he weighs 32 lbs.  Ben has a large personality and believes he's in charge, while Frisco is very mellow, which is a good thing because he's incredibly strong.

Slow but Sure Progress

I've been making steady, if slow progress on piecing the Simply Woven blocks.  I ended up with 24 blocks.  I've been playing with them on the dining room table; I'm trying to end up with a balanced layout.  I'm really not satisfied with either a 4 x 5 or 4 x 6 layouts.  I think I'll make one more block out of scraps; so I'll have a 5 x 5 layout and the quilt to will be about 60" square.

In other news, 6 weeks ago we adopted two dogs.  They needed homes and we needed dogs.  This week we took them to the groomers, and on the way home, Frisco, above, managed to lower the rear window and jump out.  He landed under the car and was run over!  Frisco got up on his own, walked to the sidewalk and waited for Bob.  Bob took him straight to the vets office, and he had surgery this morning.  He's home now and doing great.  He was hurt much less than we imagined, which is a relief.

Here is a photo of both dogs.  Frisco is 7 years old and a large Cocker, we're calling him an American Cocker Spaniel mix.  Ben is only one years old, and 10 pounds.  He's a terrier mix; his coloring is like a Cairn Terrier, but he's much smaller than any Cairn we've ever had.  The dogs get along great, which is great for us.

Lush Uptown Delectable Mountain

It took a little while to get back in the swing of things.  Yesterday, when I started on the binding for this quilt, I wasn't sure I really knew what I was doing!  Thank heavens it all came right back.

I love the quilt back, too.

The color of the quilting thread is Honey 32607, and the pattern is Old Oakky.  I love working with my long-arm quilter Janiel Miller, on this part of the process.

These are our two new dogs.  Ben, is a terrier mix, one year old, and Frisco is an American Cocker, seven years old.  They get along great.  It's the first time we've had two males.  These are dogs number 11 and 12 for us, in 50 years of marriage.

Dog walking bag

Yesterday, between regular life and visits to the hospital, I took time to make this across the chest bag.  One of Bob's joys has been walking the dogs, I've had to take over that responsibility.  Since I think my dog walking may go on for a long time I made this bag to carry the doggy pick-up bags.

I got tired of stuffing them in my pockets, then forgetting to take them out.  I'll take a pair of pants out of the closet, and in the pockets are plastic bags.  I think this will fix that problem.  When not slung across my chest, it hangs in the garage with the rest of the doggy paraphernalia.

Today is the 8th day Bob is in the hospital.  I hope he's home soon.

Dogs at the Garden Gate Quilt

These aren't the best photos; when I finished the top and backing, I only had a few minutes to snap some photos, before dashing off to B&N, to work.  It was hot outside and I didn't want to tax my quilt model.

I'm really in love with this quilt.  It'll be about 45 x 45", once it's quilted.
