The Wonky Improv-Curve Quilt is Complete!

As per my normal M.O., I'm posting WAY too many photos.  I got this quilt back from the long-arm quilter in early September, and just had time to admire the lovely quilting before I left town on a baseball tour.

Then when I got back, it was time to pack for a trip to France.   Travel is great, but so is being home.

I hand-stitched the binding on this quilt. Something I rarely do. I'm going to enter this in a quilt show, and I thought hand-stitching was the way to go.

I always add a pop of fabric from the quilt to the binding.  This time, I added two different fabrics, just because I wanted to!

Los Angeles Quilt Show and Fiber Art Fest at Crafted.

Yesterday, my daughter Sharon and I went to the Second Los Angeles Quilt Show, it was held at Crafted in San Pedro at the Port of Los Angeles.  We went last year and were very impressed; second year was great, too.  I was going to enter a quilt this year, but as I told Sharon, "This hasn't been my favorite year", maybe next year.  I didn't take a photo of all the quilts, but I'm going to show you many of them.

Sharon thinks I need to make one like this.  Isn't it beautiful?

Another beauty.  I love giraffes!

Such a  great story.

Lovely quilt, sorry for the blurry explanation.

I love this simple quilt.  And the name!

What a wonderful quilt, and her tag is great!

Another blurry tag.  These are applique quilts, made from whole cloth, in the manner they make them in Pakistan.

Pets on Quilts

Ben is 1, and Frisco is 7

These two are difficult to photograph.  They could really care less about cooperating.  My technique was to throw a couple of patchwork quilts on the sofa, and entice them with treats.  I didn't have great results, but decided to share them anyway.

Ben and Frisco are shelter dogs who came to live with us on June 2nd.  They're great guys and we are so lucky to have them in our lives.  Ben is a small terrier mix, 10 lbs., and Frisco is an American Cocker mix, and he weighs 32 lbs.  Ben has a large personality and believes he's in charge, while Frisco is very mellow, which is a good thing because he's incredibly strong.

I'm linking up at Lily Pad Quilting.

The Inaugural Los Angeles Quilt Show and Fiber Art Fest

This new Quilt Show was held at a great space, Crafted, in the Port of Los Angeles, or San Pedro, to locals.

The gals from Sew Modern were there, with their groovy trailer.

I found out about this event via one of my daughter Sharon's friends and co-worker, Heidi Bartlett.  This is one of her entries, "People Urban Cabin".  This is a new to me design, and I love it.

Luke Hayes taught an improv class on Friday, and they exhibited four of his quilts.   This one was my favorite; I love the quilting on the reverse.  Sharon was really surprised that other quilters don't usually piece the backs of their quilts.

Here are shots of some of the other quilts.  This was a very small show, under 50 quilts were entered.

These two quilts, "Hail, to the Red, White and Blue", above, and "Aloha", below, are by the same quilter, Diane Wing.

This "Boston Commons" quilt is by Patricia Byron.  It is entirely hand stitched and quilted!  Below are a couple more quilts that I didn't get the quilt maker information.

And this is my daughter, Sharon.  She didn't realize I was taking her photo.

And some quilt show humor.

It was a really great day, it was almost 90 miles, one way, but well worth the drive.  I think I'll enter a quilt or two, next year.  This is there FB page, if you're interested.  The space, Crafted has a FB page, too.

Old Town Temecula Outdoor Quilt Show

Today, I made my annual trek to the Old Town Temecula Outdoor Quilt Show.  It's always a lot of fun.  I've been popping over to it for years, long before I was a quilter.  This year I ran into Darlene, the SewCalGal, it was good to see her, but we didn't chat other than to say hello, there was just too much to see.

The quilts were grand, as usual, but I took far fewer photos.  I think I know more about quilting and I focused on the ones I really liked.  Here are my photos, pretty much in the order they were taken:

This quilt looks so complicated, but the layout is just brilliant.

Such a fun summery quilt.

I've been seeing a lot of "low volume" quilts, lately, and I think this one is lovely.  It was hanging from the 2nd story, I walked up the stairs to get a back view and the "legend".

This one is so simple, but complex, at the same time.
