Making lemonade

It's hard to know what to title this post, here are some options:

Don't Sew, When You Can't Breathe
When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade
Oh, Cr*p!
I Want to Cry

Pretty dramatic!  I've been fighting a cold, a real doozy, plus doing everything that needs to be done around here.  Plus, I've decided I want several wall hangings, so I can change them seasonally.  I've got the Valentines wall hanging up, now, and the Little Forrest one, stored for Winter.  I thought I'd make another wall hanging that would be generic, not really seasonal; and I thought I'd make a matching pillow cover.  This was my inspiration:

Elizabeth of Don't Call Me Becky, has a great tutorial.  I thought, I'm a book nerd, why not do this!  And use lot's of scraps, too.

The tutorial is great, except for the life of me, I couldn't find what size to cut the leaning book, so I winged it. Here are my two blocks, thru Step 8.  My leaning books are too pale.

Good grief, what was I thinking!  Well, I said to myself, "I'll just replace that pale book".  Easier said than done.  On one I made a stupid cutting error.  Yes that's right, really stupid.  So I set it aside and worked on the other, being careful not to repeat my error.  Then I went back to the first one and developed plan B, two leaning books.  I never did get the leaning book(s) to touch the shelf, but that's not going to happen with these blocks.

Now, on to steps 10 thru 12.  Wish me luck.
May your bobbins always be full,

  1. Oh what a good idea - I love books too. Never mind it doesn't touch the shelf - in my house that would eb because of the layer of dust!
    Hope you're feeling better soon

  2. You definitely hit on a wall hanging that has YOUR heart in it, it is a cute idea. I'm assuming the next step is to give the book titles. Are you going to put names of your faves, or give them joke titles? Curious minds are inquiring...hope you can kick the cold in the teeth, I'm suffering with one myself, and fighting the grouchies....

  4. G'day. Well done. I must admit that I like the one with the two leaning books. Love the colors. Take care. Liz...
