Folksy Flock Quilt for Oden is complete!

This quilt was requested in September, I promised it for January, and I'm happy to say it's finished!  You can read about my journey making it here.

This quilt is Full Bed size, 81" x 101".  Oden requested a quilt with a pattern and a white background, and that's what he's getting.

Folksy Flock Quilt Top is complete! There are no Quilt Police in Modern Quilting!

I really love how this turned out.  I took the instructions from issue 48 of Love Patchwork and Quilting and did some math to come up with the needed pieces for a quilt for a full-size bed. 

33 A Blocks ~ Green

• 132 green print 5.5”x3”
• 264 background 3” squares
• 66 background 3”x10.5”

24 B Blocks ~ Blue

• 48 blue print 10.5”x5.5”
• 96 background 5.5” squares

25 C Blocks ~ Yellow and Aqua

• 25 yellow print 5.5”x3”
• 25 aqua print 5.5”x3”
• From background fabric
• 100 3” squares
• 25 5.5” squares
• 25 5.5”x3”
• 25 5.5”x8”

There are a lot of pieces in this quilt; when I did the math, initially, I thought I only needed 23 B Blocks and 24 C Blocks; I was incorrect and improvised!

This shows rows 8, 9 and 10 sewn together.  See the pinwheel at the top of the photo and the two yellow flying geese near the bottom left?  Those are my two improvs and that is Frisco checking up on me.

I don't think most people would notice and I'm very happy with the results.  There are no Quilt Police in Modern Quilting!

Folksy Flock Quilt C Blocks

Life keeps getting in the way of my sewing time!  I'm sure that's a common complaint from quilters.  I just finished the last set of blocks for Oden's quilt.  Tomorrow I'll mix all the blocks together and hope for a great layout.

Folksy Flock Quilt B Blocks

These larger B Blocks sure went together faster than the more fiddley A Blocks.  There are a total of 23 B Blocks.

In the finished quilt, these larger Flying Geese will not be so close together, rather they'll be widely spread.

 Now to make some of the C Blocks so I can start the assembly of the quilt top.

New project

I've been doing a lot of traveling this year.  By the end of the year, I'll be away from home for over 100 days.  The downside is lack of quilting time.

A couple of months ago, my grandson Oden who is 18, asked me to make him a quilt for his bed.  His two specifications were:

1. a quilt with a pattern  

2. a white background.  

Should be easy, right?  I took my time and finally decided on the Folksy Flock quilt pattern from issue 48 of Love Patchwork and Quilting.  The pattern is for a 72" x 80" quilt so I had to do some math and come up with a plan for a double-size bed quilt.  Fun times!

This was my first fabric pull, I ended up adding many more greens because I didn't want all the blocks to look the same.

Here are the "A" blocks.  There are 33 of them but I only laid out 30.

Now, on to the next phase!

This was a surprise!

 I was having some computer virus problems and my computer geek, didn't have an extra second, so he walked me thru the fixes.  When my pc was back to normal google asked if I wanted to back up my photos on google+, I thought what the heck, and said yes.  They took some photos from a quilty photo shot with Oden and made two gifs, and notified me today.  I think they're neat and thought I'd share.
