My Challenge Quilt is Finished

This is the quilt I made for the Temecula Valley Magazine Photo Challenge.  I made a slew of HSTs and Four-Patches thinking that would best represent the "Corn On The Cob" photo I picked as my inspiration.  You can read about the process here.

This photo is from the July issue of "Real Simple" magazine, page 153.

For the quilt back I used the sample I made for the challenge since I didn't have any place else to use it.  This was from a photo in the NYTimes Magazine of 5/7/17.

 My thought was that adding a "sun" would make it look more beachy.  The quilt measures 44 x 38 inches.

The challenge isn't due until our October meeting, but I'm going to be traveling for three weeks and didn't want to leave it to the last minute.

Time for a new challenge

Last year I challenged my fellow guild members to make a quilt, any size quilt, using only solid color fabric.  Those quilts are due at our meeting on Thursday.  At our board meeting last week, we decided to issue another challenge for everyone.  We had a couple of ideas and settled on what we're calling a Mag. Challenge.  I decided I'd do an "example" over the weekend.

For house #1, above, I ran out of the bird print and had to improvise, and one of the windows is too low!

For house #2, I really think the black and white print is too bold.

I love house #3, with the bad hombre's peeking out of the windows.

Here are all three houses together.  Below is the original photo, taken from the NYTimes Magazine of 5/7/17.

I concentrated on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th houses.  I'm very self-critical, but I think it's OK.  I don't have any plans for this example, and it may end up on a quilt back.
