Giving Love Quilt or #7, is complete!

This is the 3rd Giving Love Quilt I've made, you can read about why I made another here.  It's for my cousins' daughter, Ellen.

I love the sunlight streaming through the quilt back.  Below is a close-up of the Dragonfly panto that is my current favorite.

Giving Love Quilt Top, or a #7 Please

Recently I did a quilt giveaway for 4 of my cousins.  I have many cousins, about 50, but these 4 are special.  I sent an email showing the 8 quilts I was willing to part with and asked them to choose 1 or two.  Ginny chose 1, Chris chose 2, Karen picked 3, and I didn't hear from Ellen.  The quilts were mailed off; then weeks later I got an email from Ellen, she'd picked a quilt and didn't hit send on her mail.  There was only one quilt left and I asked if she'd accept it instead of her 1st choice. 
She was happy to have it in her home.  But, I decided to make her another quilt, like the one she wanted.  

The quilt she wanted was one of the Giving Love Quilts I made as a sampler to show my guild.  This layout requires 13 12.5" blocks.  I already had 11 blocks on hand; so I made 2 more and assembled this quilt top for Ellen.

Mystery Sampler Quiilt

I'm very happy with this quilt top. I took some orphan blocks that have been hanging around, added some Blocks of the Month from my quilt guild, and this is what I got. I'm calling it a Mystery Sampler Quilt because I really didn't know how it was going to turn out.   I love the star binding!

Sampler Mystery Quilt

I'm very happy with this quilt top.  I took some orphan blocks that have been hanging around, added some Blocks of the Month from my quilt guild, and this is what I got.  I'm calling it a Mystery Quilt because I really didn't know how it was going to turn out.  It measures 60 x 72".

Now to figure out the quilt back, plus I've had a request for more masks!  My friend is in her nineties, 95, I think, and she was one of the first people I called to see if she wanted a face mask or two.  No, she really didn't. but now, months later as the pandemic has dragged on she's reconsidered.  I'm happy to help, but I really thought my mask-making days were behind me.

Busy, busy, busy!

Well, I have been busy sewing blocks; just not busy posting them!  Most of these were made with leftover bits and pieces from other projects.  The trees and the barns are the exceptions.  I've been making these to add to the other blocks I've made in conjunction with the Charity Quilt Project my guild does.  Each month a member presents a block for the other members to make and donate to the project.  Every month I made 4 blocks, 2 to donate and two to keep.

This group is the exception.  I'm keeping 4 of these and donating 1.

The keepers, plus these extra blocks are going to be a large sample quilt.  I've spent the morning working on the layout.  Now, I'm going to let it sit for a while.  I'll come back to it tomorrow and stitch it together.  I have to say that it's been fun using the leftover blocks and HSTs to make something new!

Breezy Quilt, #2

While making the Breezy #1 quilt top, I thought it'd be fun to have more colors in the background.  For Breezy #1, I used Kona Windsor and Coty.  For Breezy #2, I used Kona Turquoise, Chartreuse, Citrus, Red, and Surf.  Thank heavens for a fabric stash!

This is a fun finish for me.  Each month I make 4 quilt blocks, 2 to donate to my quilt guilds' Charity BOM project, and 2 to keep for quilts like this one.  One of the blocks in this quilt are from a class I took at Quiltcon a couple of years ago.  The quilt back is made from fabric I purchased; I thought it was printed madras patchwork.  So much for thinking, it's actually pieced; lots of squares of madras sewn together.

Breezy, Quilt #1

Tree Quilt Block

At the March meeting for the Temecula Valley MQG, I'm presenting the BOM.  I got these done early and the tutorial scheduled on the TVMQG website because my life is busy!  The was an easy block to make Kristy has very good directions.  I recommend paying attention to her seam pressing suggestions.  You can find the tutorial here.

Breezy Quilt Tops

When I make charity quilt blocks for my quilt guild, the Temecula Vally Modern Quilt Guild, I make 2 to donate and 2 to keep. I threw in some orphan blocks and made these quilt tops from the keepers. Two quilt tops done, same pattern, different look.

First I made the quilt top on the left.  While I was making it, I was inspired to make the brighter version.  Thank heavens for an abundant stash!

For Breezy #1, I used Kona Windsor and Coty.

For Breezy #2, I used Kona Turquoise, Chartreuse, Citrus, Red, and Surf.

This is a new design for setting the 12" blocks, it may be my favorite. I'm calling it Breezy because I was fighting a strong breeze when taking the photos.

In other news, I'm in ❤ with my new iron!  It's heavy and makes pressing quilt seams a breeze. I ordered it from the Vermont Country Store, in case you want to check it out.

Wonky Stars BOM

These are the TVMQG's BOM for January, Wonky Stars.  Our meeting was on the 17th, so I'm late!  Life just got in the way.  Two of these will stay here for future quilts, and two will be donated to my quilt guild.  Now to work on the February BOM, a Scrappy Log Cabin Heart.

Maple Leaf Blocks

These are for my Modern Quilt Guilds' Block of the Month Charity Quilt project.  Each month a different member chooses a block to present.  Once enough blocks are collected, we assemble them into large lap-size quilts to donate to a local charity. 

This month's tutorial can be found here.  Rather than use yardage, I had this great Charm Pack that I thought would work perfectly.  I had to improvise a bit, but I think the Maple Leaves turned out great.

Fast, So Fast!

These were the "fastest blocks in the West"! So fast. They are the November #bom for the #TVMQG charity quilt project. The name of this block is Whirlwind. I can see the possibility of an entire quilt made from these blocks. It'd be finished in a couple of days!

A new tutorial for the Bow Tie Block

My quilt guild, The Temecula Valley Modern Quilt Guild, has a 12" Block of the Month program.  A different member presents a block each month.  The guild asks each member to donate a BOM block each month and we then incorporated the blocks into Charity Quilts and donate them to a worthy cause.  We've been donating the quilts to Jacob's House Temecula; they do really good work in our valley and fulfill a need.

This month it was my turn to present a block, I decided on the Bow Tie Block and I wrote a new tutorial.  There are a million Bow Tie block tutorials on the web, but some were pretty weird or confusing, so I did my own.  You can find it here if you're interested.

X and Plus Blocks

My guild is still making 12" blocks for our Charity Quilt Project.  These are the BOMs for this month.  I got them done early because I'm leaving on a Jet Plane before our next meeting.  I've handed them off to Jessica, she will turn them in for me.

Inspiring Stitches Block of the Month Quilt Project ~ April 2019

Five 6.5" Flutter blocks are for the 2019 Inspiring Stitches Hometown BOM.  These are the April blocks.  I improvised because I didn't like the instructions, but the results are the same.

Charity Blocks

The Bow Tie block is one of my favorites. I'm getting a head start on my blocks for April because I want to concentrate on a Red and White Quilt! These are the 12.5" BOM for the TVMQG Charity Quilt project. Two will be donated and two will stay here.  You can find the tutorial for this block here.

Starflower BOM for March

This the Strawflower quilt block chosen for my quilt guilds BOM this month.  It's a delightful block, but the tutorial was a nightmare.  If I was a beginning quilter, I would have cried, thrown my hands in the air and quit!  Many steps were left out.
