Breezy Quilt Tops

When I make charity quilt blocks for my quilt guild, the Temecula Vally Modern Quilt Guild, I make 2 to donate and 2 to keep. I threw in some orphan blocks and made these quilt tops from the keepers. Two quilt tops done, same pattern, different look.

First I made the quilt top on the left.  While I was making it, I was inspired to make the brighter version.  Thank heavens for an abundant stash!

For Breezy #1, I used Kona Windsor and Coty.

For Breezy #2, I used Kona Turquoise, Chartreuse, Citrus, Red, and Surf.

This is a new design for setting the 12" blocks, it may be my favorite. I'm calling it Breezy because I was fighting a strong breeze when taking the photos.

In other news, I'm in ❤ with my new iron!  It's heavy and makes pressing quilt seams a breeze. I ordered it from the Vermont Country Store, in case you want to check it out.

Giving Love Sampler Quilts

Giving Love Quilt Tops

I decided to come up with another layout for my quilt's charity quilts.  This version is super easy, you need 13 12.5" blocks and 12 12.5" HSTs.  The blocks I used were from the guilds BOM program.  Every month we have a different block and ask members to make one and donate it to our Charity Quilt Challenge.  Every month I make 4, 2 to donate and 2 to keep for my own use.  I really like how these turned out.  If you want to make your own Giving Love Quilt, you can find the tutorial here.

At Last!

 I hadn't touched my sewing machine in over two months.  Life and travel got in the way.  In April I went to Croatia and loved it.  If there weren't so many unexplored places on my list, I'd go back in a heartbeat.  I was home for a couple of weeks and left on a three-week trip visiting Norway, London, and NYC.  I go to NYC annually for Book Expo America, but I'm always open for an excuse to visit the city that never sleeps.

Well, now I'm home for the next 10 or 11 weeks and I intend on getting some sewing/quilting accomplished.  This quilt top was first on my list.  It's for my quilt guild's Charity Project.  Over the past year guild members created blocks from their own stash, our Block of the Month program, and donated them to the group.  Now, we're in the process of assembling the quilt tops; next will be making the quilts and them binding them.  They'll be donated to Jacob's House.

April Charity BOM

These are my versions of the Temecula Valley MQG block of the month.  This 12" Tulip Block is very easy to make, you can find the tutorial by following this link.  I cut the pieces on Friday and chain pieced all four blocks on Saturday.  They're put together log-cabin-syle.  As usual, I'll donate two and keep two.  I really love the green blocks and think I'll keep those.

December BOM, Kings Crown

I'm in love with this block.  It was so much fun to make.  Here's the link to the tutorial by Sharon Holland and Maureen Cracknell.  Our quilt guild, Temecula Valley MQG is asking members to make at least one 12.5" block each month, to donate to our Charity quilt project.  The first block was presented in January, due in February, and in February 2018 we're planning on putting the blocks together into quilts to donate to a local cause.  I always make four blocks, two to donate and two to keep here for a future project.

I got a head start on these because I'm traveling part of December.  Now I need to go pack!

More BOM stitchin'

It seems as if the only sewing I've accomplished lately is Blocks of the Month for my Modern Quilt Guild.  It's true, but I have a good excuse, I've been doing a lot of traveling.  In August, I went to Iceland, in September I "did" the Ultimate Gameday Weekend Tour, and in October I went to Spain for two weeks.  Altogether, I'm traveling over 100 days this year.

All that traveling has cut into my stitching time.  I have one small project to do and two large quilts in the planning stages.  Wish me luck.
