Wonky Stars BOM

These are the TVMQG's BOM for January, Wonky Stars.  Our meeting was on the 17th, so I'm late!  Life just got in the way.  Two of these will stay here for future quilts, and two will be donated to my quilt guild.  Now to work on the February BOM, a Scrappy Log Cabin Heart.

Maple Leaf Blocks

These are for my Modern Quilt Guilds' Block of the Month Charity Quilt project.  Each month a different member chooses a block to present.  Once enough blocks are collected, we assemble them into large lap-size quilts to donate to a local charity.

This month's tutorial can be found here.  Rather than use yardage, I had this great Charm Pack that I thought would work perfectly.  I had to improvise a bit, but I think the Maple Leaves turned out great.

Giving Love Quilt Top

My quilt guild, the Temecula Vally Modern Quilt Guild, makes quilts to give to Thomas House.  We're a small guild and we manage to give 12 quilts a year to them.  This quilt top was made from donated Block of the Months.  The blocks are 12.5" and the HSTs are the same size; those are the larges HSTs I've ever made!  I'll turn this quilt top into the Charity Quilt Vice President at our next meeting, then someone will quilt it and someone will bind it, maybe me!

I came up with the quilt design, if you want to make your own, the tutorial is here.

Fast, So Fast!

These were the "fastest blocks in the West"! So fast. They are the November #bom for the #TVMQG charity quilt project. The name of this block is Whirlwind. I can see the possibility of an entire quilt made from these blocks. It'd be finished in a couple of days!

A new tutorial for the Bow Tie Block

My quilt guild, The Temecula Valley Modern Quilt Guild, has a 12" Block of the Month program.  A different member presents a block each month.  The guild asks each member to donate a BOM block each month and we then incorporated the blocks into Charity Quilts and donate them to a worthy cause.  We've been donating the quilts to Jacob's House Temecula; they do really good work in our valley and fulfill a need.

This month it was my turn to present a block, I decided on the Bow Tie Block and I wrote a new tutorial.  There are a million Bow Tie block tutorials on the web, but some were pretty weird or confusing, so I did my own.  You can find it here if you're interested.

X and Plus Blocks

My guild is still making 12" blocks for our Charity Quilt Project.  These are the BOMs for this month.  I got them done early because I'm leaving on a Jet Plane before our next meeting.  I've handed them off to Jessica, she will turn them in for me.

Here's the guilds' blog post for this tutorial, we used the original tutorial by Bad Skirt but changed the dimensions to make a larger block.

Starflower BOM for March

This the Strawflower quilt block chosen for my quilt guilds BOM this month.  It's a delightful block, but the tutorial was a nightmare.  If I was a beginning quilter, I would have cried, thrown my hands in the air and quit!  Many steps were left out.

Giving Love Sampler Quilts

Ta Da!  These are the two Giving Love Sampler Quilts I made to show my guild.  You can read about the project here.  I hope they like my idea if they don't, I still have two new quilts to give away.

Giving Love Quilt Tops

I decided to come up with another layout for my quilt's charity quilts.  This version is super easy, you need 13 12.5" blocks and 12 12.5" HSTs.  The blocks I used were from the guilds BOM program.  Every month we have a different block and ask members to make one and donate it to our Charity Quilt Challenge.  Every month I make 4, 2 to donate and 2 to keep for my own use.  I really like how these turned out.  If you want to make your own Giving Love Quilt, you can find the tutorial here.

If you're curious, below is the previous version of the TVMQG Charity Quilts.  It uses 12 BOM blocks and 2.5" strips and 1.75 yards of fabric.  This tutorial can be found here.

January BOM ~ The Woven Block

These are the Block of the Month for February that I'm presenting at my guild meeting this month.  I got them finished early, so I could write the tutorial and have it posted on the guild blog in plenty of time for the meeting.  This is a fun block, and I'm glad I have them finished early since I'll be in Nashville in February, for Quiltcon and not be able to attend the meeting.

The BOM blocks for the next two months are complete! Yay for me. These Strip Step blocks are fast and easy, and a real scrap-buster.  The Pres. and VP of my guild decided to make this a two-month endeavor; taking summer into consideration.  I'll probably make some more before the August meeting.

You can find the Strip Step tutorial here.

The Card Trick Block

The BOM for June is Card Trick. Two of these 12.5-inch blocks are for the TVMQG charity quilt tops and two are staying here.  This is the link to the tutorial I used.  Now I'm all caught up, but our meeting is Thursday and there'll be a new BOM, oh, bother!

December BOM, Kings Crown

I'm in love with this block.  It was so much fun to make.  Here's the link to the tutorial by Sharon Holland and Maureen Cracknell.  Our quilt guild, Temecula Valley MQG is asking members to make at least one 12.5" block each month, to donate to our Charity quilt project.  The first block was presented in January, due in February, and in February 2018 we're planning on putting the blocks together into quilts to donate to a local cause.  I always make four blocks, two to donate and two to keep here for a future project.

I got a head start on these because I'm traveling part of December.  Now I need to go pack!

More BOM stitchin'

It seems as if the only sewing I've accomplished lately is Blocks of the Month for my Modern Quilt Guild.  It's true, but I have a good excuse, I've been doing a lot of traveling.  In August, I went to Iceland, in September I "did" the Ultimate Gameday Weekend Tour, and in October I went to Spain for two weeks.  Altogether, I'm traveling over 100 days this year.

All that traveling has cut into my stitching time.  I have one small project to do and two large quilts in the planning stages.  Wish me luck.

You can find the info on the Spools BOM on the guilds' blog, here.

HST Flying Geese are the October BOM

I cheated!  I wanted to make these far in advance because I have a 3 week trip coming up and I hate to miss a deadline.  (Even if the deadline is self-imposed!)

TVMQG member Madeline is presenting this block at our meeting this week and it's due in October.  Since I wrote the blog post about the tutorial, I had the inside scoop and was able to make these ahead.  I made four, but they're all alike so I only photographed two of them.  The tutorial can be found here.

Simple Pleasures BOM

This is the September Block of the Month for the Temecula Valley MQG.  It was fun and easy to make.  You can find the tutorial here.  Our member, Susan saw this block on IG and couldn't find a name or instructions for it.  I named it and she wrote the tutorial.  Susan did an excellent job.

All the blocks for the BOM project this year are 12.5 inches.  As usually two of these will go to the guild and two will stay at my house.  I'll be ready to make a quilt from all the blocks next year.

Oh Susannah! I love this block.

This is such a neat and easy block for our Temecula Valley Modern Quilt Guild, Block of the Month for July.  Below are four laid out, what a great quilt this would make.  Two of these blocks are going to the guild and two will stay at Casa Prytz!

How different they look, on point!  Here's a link to the tutorial.

Playing Catch-Up

I just realized that I've made two sets of  TVMQG BOM and not posted them.  I just made another set, so I'm playing catch-up and posting three sets in one post.

First, here are the blocks for March, the Four-Leaf Clover Block.

Next were the Modern Movement Blocks for April.

And finally, the Double Pinwheel Block for May.

All of the blocks are 12.5 inches square.  As I make the BOMs, I'm making 2 for our guild and 2 for a future quilt.  I'm always planning ahead.
