2017 Finished Quilt Recap

These are the quilts I finished this year, large and small.  This is what happens when I travel a lot.  I was gone from home 100 days in 2017, and all that travel really cuts into the stitching time!  Some of these are listed in my Etsy shop, some have been or will be gifted and one is staying right here at Casa Prytz.

I have two additional quilts at my LAQ, and they will be 2018 finishes.

My Challenge Quilt is Finished

This is the quilt I made for the Temecula Valley Magazine Photo Challenge.  I made a slew of HSTs and Four-Patches thinking that would best represent the "Corn On The Cob" photo I picked as my inspiration.  You can read about the process here.

This photo is from the July issue of "Real Simple" magazine, page 153.

For the quilt back I used the sample I made for the challenge since I didn't have any place else to use it.  This was from a photo in the NYTimes Magazine of 5/7/17.

 My thought was that adding a "sun" would make it look more beachy.  The quilt measures 44 x 38 inches.

The challenge isn't due until our October meeting, but I'm going to be traveling for three weeks and didn't want to leave it to the last minute.

Jacobs Ladder Quilt

I haven't posted in a long time!  I started the binding on this quilt, then I went on a month long vacation, and I finished the binding when I got home.  I challenged my TVMQG members to make a quilt using only solid fabric.  We're a new guild and about half modern and half traditional, so I thought a Solids Challenge would help the members think outside the box.

I really love how this Jacobs Ladder quilt turned out.  My favorite part is the secondary arrows created by joining the blocks together.

I used the back of the quilt to display all my OPPS blocks.  This just proves that I'm not perfect, and I don't try to hide the fact!

Riley Blake Creative Rockstar Fabric Challenge, Spring 2017

I finished this quilt more than a month before the deadline of April 30th.  Why you ask?  Between now and the deadline, I'm going to be mostly out of town.  If you're interested in my adventures, check my IG feed, @janprytz.

I have to tell you that I love this Rock Star fabric collection.  When Riley Blake announced the challenge on MQG, I decided to purchase the entire line, just because I love it.  I did receive the challenge bundle in the mail, and it became a raffle prize at my guild, Temecula Valley MQG.

Plus, I'm patting myself on the back for using the quilt labels I got from Mountain Street Arts, on Etsy.  I love them.

I love this quilt, I know, I know, I'm repeating myself.  Right now, it's in the washing machine, can you believe that after all the rain we've had, the fence was dirty!

Lawn Diamond Quilt

Woo Hoo!  The most boring quilt in the world is FINISHED!  It's my first finish of 2017!  I call this Lawn Diamond quilt the most boring quilt in the world due to the massive amount of repetition.  Lesson learned; break up the project into smaller segments so you don't want to scratch your eyes out!

So Cal is having a lot of rain, and while it isn't raining right now, everything outside is pretty soaked.  Using the kitchen shutters was a good alternative to trying to get an outside photo, either on the improvised clothesline or my design grass.
