Second Edition of the Cross-Hatch Quilt Top

For this version, I mixed up the solid color squares, instead of keeping them in color order.  I really love how all the versions turned out.  If you want to make your own, the tutorial is here.  You can easily adjust the size of your quilt by changing the size of the squares and HSTs.  For this quilt, I used 5" squares and HSTs, instead of the 5.5" in the tutorial.

The Solid Cross-Hatch Quilt Top is Complete, the First Edition

I'm really happy with this Solid color version of the Cross-Hatch Quilt Top, warts and all.  On the Black and White version, I planned imperfection; this time it just happened.  Guess I'm Amish at heart.

I have enough squares and HST ready for another quilt top, Guess I better get busy!

As you can see, it's Frisco approved.  I had the darndest time getting and keeping him off this quilt top!  This time I made the squares 5", instead of 5.5".  That made the quilt top smaller, 51" x 64", as opposed to 56" x 70".  Maybe I'll try it with 4" squares sometime in the future.

The Beginning of a Solids Cross-Hatch Quilt Top

I really liked the Black and White Cross-Hatch Quilt Top; so I decided to make two more using solid color scraps.  I have plenty to those!  I spent some time sorting, then cutting enough 5" squares for the two new quilt tops.  Then I made the 80 HSTs I'll need for two tops.  I've become a believer in doing two at a time!

I am assembling each quilt top separately because I want them to look different.  I have the first 7 rows assembled, and the next 3 rows are already pinned together.  I just needed a little break before assembling them.  BTW, I'm using my own tutorial, it just makes my life easier.

Carpenter Star Quilt Tops

Yes, I made two Carpenter Star quilt tops.  I made them at the same time; they were fast and easy.  The blue and green one will be for my great grandbaby, due in October; and the red, white, and blue one will be staying in my living room.

Birch Point Quilt Top

This is my version of the Birch Point quilt top, pattern by The Blanket Statement.  When I say "my version", I really mean it. I cut and constructed the quilt differently from the pattern. I loved the look of her design but not the method. I did purchase the pattern, fair is fair.  Now to get it quilted by my LAQ.

I'm thinking of a black, gray, and white version, we'll see!

The Plan B X & Plus Quilt Top

Not bad for just winging it!  I really love how the X & Plus quilt top turned out.  It measures 50x64".

Now to decide on the quilt back.

Currents Quilt!

Disparate times! Its been raining off and on, but I really wanted to get some photos of this completed quilt, Currents. I stood on my driveway waiting for someone to walk by. The first person was walking a dog, holding a bag of poop, and talking on the phone, so I just waved. The next person helped me, but he didn't want to hold the quilt, so he took the photos. Mission accomplished! This is my 3rd finish this year.

As you can see, I chose to use a facing on this quilt instead of binding it.  A binding would have stopped your eye as it moved across the quilt, a facing allows the movement of the quilt to keep going.

Currents Quilt Top

This is an original design and I'm so happy with the result!  I seldom follow a pattern, which means every quilt is an adventure and/or gamble.  I never really know how it'll turn out.

My next decision was how to have it quilted.  I have a fabulous local LAQ, but I also thought thread color changes would be great.  I decided to have it custom quilted and I put it in the mail today.

Jacobs Ladder Quilt

I haven't posted in a long time!  I started the binding on this quilt, then I went on a month long vacation, and I finished the binding when I got home.  I challenged my TVMQG members to make a quilt using only solid fabric.  We're a new guild and about half modern and half traditional, so I thought a Solids Challenge would help the members think outside the box.

I really love how this Jacobs Ladder quilt turned out.  My favorite part is the secondary arrows created by joining the blocks together.

I used the back of the quilt to display all my OPPS blocks.  This just proves that I'm not perfect, and I don't try to hide the fact!

The Disappearing Quilt Blocks Challenge quilt top is finished.

I haven't been posting my progress on this quilt, but I have been working hard.  I'm going to Quiltcon next wee, and feel like I'm under a deadline!

I used three different disappearing blocks for this design.  Two you probably know all about, the disappearing 9-patch and the disappearing 4-patch; the third block is the Intersection Block that I found on Film in the Fridge.

This quilt top measures 77" x 77".  Now, I'm off to contruct the quilt back.

The Disappearing Blocks ~ Progress Report!

I have been busy sewing, not posting.  I made 17 Disappearing Four Patch blocks (one didn't make it into the photo!).

Then I made 16 Disappearing Nine Patch Blocks.  I have more blocks to make with a different Disappearing block, then I'll be able to put a quilt top together.

The Disappearing Blocks

I've decided to participate in the 2017 Riley Blake Rockstar Fabric Challenge.  I went ahead a purchased the Rockstar fabric, plus five solids that I thought wold work well.  The first blocks I'm making are Disappearing Four-Patch blocks.

I did two test blocks using different fabric from my stash.  I'm using this test fabric in a sampler quilt; so nothing will be wasted.  In case you're interested, the block on the left started with four 7" squares and finishes at 12.5", the smaller block started with four 6" squares and finished at 10.5".

Once the test was done, I started cutting the Rockstar fabric and made 4 blocks, today.  I tried to give them a touch of "modern" by varying the depth of the cuts in the center.  There are many more blocks to go and not all of them will be 4-patch.

Jacobs Ladder Quilt Top is finished.

I decided to make a Jacobs Ladder quilt in October after I challenged my guild members, the Temecula Valley Modern Quilt Guild to make a quilt entirely out of solids.  The quilts are due at our March meeting, so I should be good.

I chose this layout because I love the secondary arrows.  I didn't plan the layout of the colors, I pretty much just laid them down and stitched them together.  The top measures 60" x 72".  Now I need to make the quilt back.  Good times!

Jacob's Ladder progress

It's super yucky outside, yes that's a SoCal native declaration, so I laid these out on the garage floor.  Five more Jacob's Ladder blocks completed!  I plan to make five more and using some on the quilt back.

I laid these out all "willy-nilly" with no attention to design.  I really like the random layout but I don't think random will be part of the final design.

Before making the final five blocks I'll be working on some small projects.  I've learned to pace making this kind of block so that I don't get bored.

Progress Report

I'm making progress on my Solids Jacobs Ladder Quilt top.  Five more blocks completed the past few days.

Here are all 20 of the completed blocks laid out randomly.  I have 10 more blocks to make, then I'll decide on the final layout.

I'm taking a "sewing-break" until after Christmas.  My daughter Sharon and grandson Oden are coming for Christmas Day, so I want to get the house in order.

Jacob's Ladder Quilt Top

I made five more Jacob's Ladder blocks after the Stereo Quilt was delivered to my Long-Arm quilter.

I now have at total of 15 blocks, including the blue and red opps blocks!  I plan on making a total of 30 blocks giving me a finished quilt that will be 60 by 72 inches.
