Surprises are good.

I mentioned recently, on the family blog, that I'd won a GC from Pink Chalk Fabrics, for being one of the finalist in their Quilt Tutorial Contest.  Well, I spent it right away, and got two scrap bags.  You never know what you'll get when you order a scrap bag.  I've never been disappointed, and I wasn't this time, either.

These Scrap Bags are called "Bits and Pieces", and I received only a couple of "bits", the rest are very nice sized.

I also won some fabric from the Henry Glass blog, just for leaving a comment.  When you win from them, it's another wonderful surprise.  This is what arrived on my doorstep.

Six one-yard cuts of "Sweet Land of Liberty" by Color Principle.  That's right Six!  Plus this great coordinating panel.

Scout Update

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.  We had a great day at our daughters' home.

For the past week I've been s l o w l y working on the Scout quilt.  I did change out two of the fabrics before I started cutting.  I changed the green bracelet fabric for a dark brown bracelet, and the light dot for a brown henna.  Here's the new line up.

I really like the "new" contrast. I have the "feathers" all put together; here's a shot of 3 of them laid out on my floor.  No design wall, here!

I should have the quilt top finished tomorrow, and maybe the quilt back, too.

In other news, Kathy Mack of Pink Chalk Fabrics sent me a $20.00 GC, for being a finalist in the Handmade with Love Tutorial Contest.  I was so delighted just to be a finalist, I didn't realize I'd get something, even if I didn't win!  Very exciting.  Since I'm on a fabric diet, I decided this doesn't count.  I ordered two of her Bits and Pieces Scrap Bags.  I've ordered them before and they're wonderful.  They're not always in stock, so I was lucky.

Back from vacation

We're back from our vacation and we had a fabulous time.  No sewing going on this week, just a lot of catch up; I think I may be able to start cutting a new quilt on Saturday.   I've been rolling a lot of ideas around and I think I've settled on finally using this fabric that I won, a while ago.

I'm going to make a half square rectangle quilt, hsr, with white as a background color, if I don't change my mind before Saturday.  Stay tuned, tomorrow I'm posting a Pay It Forward.

I won a quilt!

I'm a lucky person, in so many ways.  I have a great life, a super husband, beautiful daughters and great grandkids.  I work in a bookstore, I quilt, I teach Tai Chi, life is good.  When I found out I won a quilt from Charlie Scott of Qubee Quilts, I was surprised and ecstatic.  I posted about the win on the family blog, here, if you want to read about it.

Yesterday, after teaching Tai Chi, I drove home to pick up Bob to go out for a quick bite to eat.  He said, you got a box; using his hands he said, "It's about this big and there's no return address".  Judging by his description, I asked if it was heavy, and maybe a box of books.  He said it was too light to be a box of books.

When we got home, the mystery was solved as soon as I opened the box, it was the quilt I won.

Here are my two quilt racks.  I moved the small one from the hearth to fill out this photo.  The ladder quilt rack was made for me by Fred Sobering,  Fred is a super great guy, and the father of Jacquie, of Tallgrass Prairie Studio fame.  She put me in touch with him.

Bob was working on this small quilt rack, when he got sick, last year.  It remains unfinished, but this Spring, I moved it in front to our fireplace, since we're not using it in the Spring or Summer.  This rack is from Shaker Workshops, and it's called Sabbathday Lake Towel Rack.

I'm a winner

Busy day

First, I found out one of my quilts sold, in my etsy store.  I'm always so excited that someone likes what I made.

 

It is this quilt, front and back.

It's been shipped, already, and I even figured out how to print the shipping label and pre-pay postage.  It wasn't hard, but I kinda missed standing in line and chatting with the other patrons and the post office clerk.

Fedex, brought these, today.  I won six one yard cuts from Westminster Fabrics.  They are so soft and silky, I just want to keep touching them.  The fabric is from the Farmington line by Martha Negley for Rowan.  

These are the first two 18" pillow covers that I've gotten pieced for Kimberly.

You can see, we're having gusty winds.  I made 96 HSTs and have used 72 in these two pieces.

The next two I'm planning are Granny Squares and + & X's.  Two blocks I haven't tried before, so I'll see how that goes.

I don't know what's goin' on...

...but I got another fabric bundle from Henry Glass today!  I was delighted to find six different one yard cuts of Wilderness Trail by Fresh Designs, in the large envelope.  This is all soft flannel, yummy.

Today there was no head scratching, like yesterday, wondering who Jaftex Corp. in NYC was, and why were they sending me something.  Jaftex, is Henry Glass Co.  Not to be greedy, Jaftex can send me a package any ol' time they want.

Knock Knock

A couple of weeks ago, I was notified that I won some fabric from Henry Glass.  I had no idea what I'd won, it was a mystery, until it came today.  It's a huge stack of Knock Knock by Dana Brooks.  Looks like some Fat Quarters, a couple Half Yards and at least one Fat Eight. I'm excited, wouldn't you be, too.
